Training Objective

The HUET with EBS program aims to equip participants with essential skills for safe offshore helicopter travel. It covers pre-flight protocols, emphasizing arrival time, correct dress, and documentation. Participants learn to respond to helicopter emergencies, including fire, smoke and abnormal conditions. In-flight procedures such as donning the hood and securing survival suits are highlighted, along with checking seat belts and lifejackets. The program addresses aircraft flotation characteristics, escape routes, and survival techniques post-ditching. It also focuses on EBS principles, duration, and flotation dynamics, along with the proper use of Personal Locator Beacon (PLB). Overall, the program empowers individuals with crucial skills for emergency preparedness during offshore helicopter travel.

  • Deployment, operation and breathing from EBS in a pool utilising personal air prior to HUET exercises (delegate to experience positive and negative pressure created by the body orientation in water).

  • Actions following a controlled ditching on water (including deploying EBS and, on instruction from aircrew, operation of a push out window) and evacuate through a nominated exit to an aviation liferaft.

  • Assist others where possible in carrying out initial actions on boarding the aviation liferaft, to include mooring lines, deploying the sea anchor, raising the canopy and raft maintenance.
